The place

IJburg was built on islands made out of sand dredged from the lake, and somebody had the good sense to leave a bit of it as a beach. There is a wooden bar on stilts, deck chairs, shallow water and a horizon. It is twenty five minutes from Centraal and feels like leaving the country.

Before you go

Take tram 26 to the end and keep walking. And check it is open, because the beach moves with the building work.
